Procurement and Supply Base Management – A Profession in Transition
This fast paced webinar presents Aetna's supply management framework and in turn highlights the expanding responsibilities of procurement and supply management professionals. The featured speaker, John Martino, Director, Supply Management at Aetna, shares lessons learned from the transformation project he has led for the past three years.
We all know that during the past 10+ years significant advancement has been made in optimizing the overall procure-to-pay process – from spend analysis to rationalized supply bases to electronic procurement and invoice automation to contract compliance. These advancements, along with the opening of global markets, have allowed companies to put greater reliance on suppliers and third party providers.
While there are many benefits associated with these advancements, there are also a whole new breed of procurement and supply base management issues and concerns. That is why boards of directors and regulators are asking the question – what is being done to manage the supply base, minimize supplier risk, and protect our internal and external stakeholders?
As a result, our profession is embarking on its next major transformation – a transformation that will require companies to focus on really understanding the impact or risk associated with each supplier relationship/contract and having the visibility and controls to protect financial performance and brand reputation.
